When people hear the word «Erasmus,» they usually think of university students spending a semester abroad at a foreign institution. But did you know there is a whole side of the Erasmus+ program designed specifically for all young people and youth workers, regardless of whether they are studying or not?
Through Erasmus+ Youth in Action, thousands of young people travel across Europe every year to participate in short-term exchanges, training courses, and solidarity projects. At Asociación Aranea, we facilitate these life-changing experiences—and here is everything you need to know to join the journey.
What Are Erasmus+ Youth Mobility Projects?
Unlike traditional academic exchanges, youth mobility projects are short-term, intensive experiences (usually lasting anywhere from 5 to 14 days). They focus on non-formal learning around specific social, cultural, or environmental themes—ranging from digital skills and media literacy to mental health, gender equality, and sustainability.
There are two main types of projects you can join with us:
- Youth Exchanges: Designed for young people (typically aged 13–30). You work, learn, and live alongside peers from different European countries, exploring a central topic through workshops, debates, and group activities.
- Training Courses: Designed for youth workers, leaders, and educators (with no upper age limit). These focus on professional development, sharing educational methodologies, and building network partnerships across Europe.
Busting Common Myths
- «I need to be enrolled in university.»False. Erasmus+ youth projects are open to everyone, whether you are studying, working, or taking a break to figure out your next steps.
- «It’s too expensive for me.»False. The Erasmus+ program co-funds travel costs and covers accommodation, meals, and activity materials during the project. Our goal is to ensure financial constraints never prevent young people from participating.
- «My English isn’t good enough.»False. While English is often the working language of international groups, these projects are inclusive spaces where everyone helps each other. You don’t need perfect grammar—just an open mind and a willingness to communicate!
Why You Should Take the Leap
Participating in an Erasmus+ project isn’t just about visiting a new country. It’s about discovering what you are capable of. You return home with stronger communication skills, an expanded worldview, a Youthpass certificate validating your learning, and a global network of friends.
